Enter Shikari

Enter Shikari - O2 Academy, Newcastle - Tuesday 20th October 2009

Only arranged this show the day before and was looking forward to it as other photographers who have shot the rest of the tour had been aloud to shoot full sets with flash which would have been a dream. Turn up to the venue to be told 3 song no flash rule applies which is sucky, Gibson text the tour manager to see what the crack was but we were told its the venue putting thier foot down and theres nothing he could do.

Support band - The Devil Wears Prada was just fully backlit and a real effort to get any usable shots, Enter Shikari had an impressive light show but again all backlit so extremly hard work. I got some more usable shots of these but really was a challenge shooting this show.

Party In Your Pants Tour 2009

Party in your Pants Tour - O2 Academy, Newcastle - 17th October 2009

Featuring Bowing For Soup, Zebrahead, The Leftovers and Mc Lars

Newcastle Academy had one of the first shows of a pretty impressive tour passing through. Another sold out show featuring The Leftovers, Mc Lars with Failsafe as his backing band, Zebrahead and Bowling for soup - Not bad at all for a Sunday night! I think its crazy how gigs like The Maccabees and Franz Ferdinand have just two bands on the bill and punk rock shows like this manage to cram four bands in to the same amount of time, a lot less standing around between bands and faster change overs aren't a bad thing!

The highlight of the night for me was Zebrahead, a band I have really started getting in to again since this show. Straight forward show to shoot, bit disappointed with Bowling for Soup - not a great performance and boring to photograph really. 3rd big gig in the same week though which I was pretty happy with.

Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand - O2 Academy, Newcastle - Thurs 15th October 2009

Still can't believe I got this gig - I think it could be possibly my biggest show to date (If I don't include festivals). The show had been sold out for months and last time they were in Newcastle they played the Arena - the gig really didn't seem that full though for a sell out crowd. Got in the venue fine and took Victoria with me, no photopass on the door at first but managed to get it sorted just 15 minutes before they came on stage, a little annoying as I missed photographing the support band Music, Go Music.

Pretty straight forward show to shoot and I'm Really happy with the results - they had a nice lighting set up with crazy backdrop which added to getting some different shots to the usual academy shots. I was shooting for Change The Record, the full set of images can be seen HERE.

Papa Roach

Papa Roach - O2 Academy, Newcastle - Tuesday 13th October 2009

Shooting and seeing Papa Roach for the first time live, sold out show I'm pretty sure, once I arrived I was told I was only able to shoot the band who I organized my pass through - luckily this was Papa Roach but it meant I couldn't shoot the support bands, Heavens Basement and Madina Lake. Which sucked a little but I had heard and seen good things about the lighting on this tour so was still really looking forward to shooting Papa Roach.

I was not disappointed, a pretty impressive light show - I just really wish the academy had lighting like that everyday of the week!  I was shooting the show for Change The Record - My full set of images can be viewed HERE and a review of the show by George can be viewed HERE

The Maccabees

The Maccabees - O2 Academy, Newcastle - Thursday 7th October 2009

I was lucky enough to arrange a pass last minute for The Maccabees at the O2 Academy, Newcastle - Really enjoyed the show, only two acts on the bill and the first act really weren't that great but The Maccabees put on a great live performance as ever! Wasn't a fan of The Maccabees until earlier this year when I caught them for the first time live at Evolution Festival 2009 - My sister is a huge fan and until I saw them live I had never really given them a proper listen. There new album "Wall of Arms" is defiantly worth a listen!

I was shooting the show for Change The Record so the full set of images is available to view on their site HERE
