Sonic Boom Six

Sonic Boom Six - O2 Academy2, Newcastle - Sunday 25th October 2009

This quiet Sunday evening in Newcastle saw and EPIC line up of some of the country's best ska bands passing though the O2 Academy. Opening was a local (Sunderland) ska band called The Difference Engine - never heard of these guys before only there 3rd show but they are tight with a great sound, can't wait to catch these guys again in December when they are playing with Random Hand who also happen to be on tonight's line up. They were a last minute addition to the show but greatly accepted by all. These guys make it to Newcastle a good 8-10 times a year at least but always a pleasure to watch. They didn't seem to have there usually kick about them tonight but a shorter set and earlier stage time could have been the reason or just the fact they were there to support the Boom on this special show and not to out play them! Next saw The Skints take to the stage, final night of there tour with the Boom but they still didn't disappoint - I just wish the lighting could have been better so I could have got some usable images.

Finally Sonic Boom Six took to the stage, had been ok'd to use flash for there set which made my job a lot easier! An emotional gig for these guys, end of the tour and last show with guitarist Ben as an active touring member - lots of drinks were had and an emotional performance by all - Some crowd surfing from Barney and Ben towards the end with members of Random Hand and The Skints joining them on stage for the last few songs. A pretty special show and I feel lucky and glad I was there to witness it all.
