Lily Allen – O2 Academy, Sheffield – Monday 16th November 2009

So on Monday night I made the 5 hour round trip from Newcastle to Sheffield to catch Lily Allen on the first night of the UK leg of the Brilly Allant Tour. For those that know me quite well will already know that I have always been a BIG Lily Allen fan – Her music as well as Lily herself. This was my first time catching her live and I have to say it was easily in my top 3 gigs of the year. Her vocals where spot on for the hole show even though she has been ill with both bronchitis and laryngitis for the last 6 weeks. I honestly could not fault her vocally.

To think she is only 24 years old and has achieved so much – but from seeing her live tonight you can tell why shes on top of her game. She truly loves what she does and is an amazing performer. She was supported by a rapper called Example – hes a bit like a younger version of Calvin Harris. Not going to stick any images of him from the show up on this blog as I have so many I want to stick up of Lily.

So shooting this show was different to what I was used to, I have never shot in this academy before. It was probably one of the nicer larger venues I have been in. I have to say the lighting was a damn sight better tonight to what I’m used to as the Newcastle Academy. I’m pretty happy with my set of images but I think I could have done a bit better. When Lily first came on stage I think for the first time in my life shooting a show I was a bit star struck – I don’t think the fact that she looked amazingly hot helped. Standing at her feet while she struts her stuff in front of my camera was a bit much for me and I had to give my self a kick up the ass to get my mind back on taking the shots I needed and enjoying the show after the first 3 songs.

She was all over the stage and quite a challenge to shoot but because she had two spot lights on her for the hole set it made shooting a dream, meaning I could shoot at 500-800 ISO no problem. Overall I’m happy with my shots and really enjoyed the show. Have a look at all my pictures below and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
